At a prestigious address in the heart of Dublin, Ireland, we have commissioned a cascade heat pump system by MasterTherm, featuring an integrated ATREA air handling unit.

The five-storey commercial building at 7/8 Wilton Terrace, which houses the Embassy of Canada in Ireland, now benefits from efficient and sustainable heating and domestic hot water production provided by MasterTherm heat pumps. The cascade system, consisting of six top-tier air-to-water BoxAir 90 IP units, is installed on the rooftop of this high-profile office building and delivers a total output of 300 kW — ensuring reliable performance and the ability to meet peak demands.
Installed technologies
This project is one of the first examples of a fully tailored, integrated solution. The MasterTherm heat pumps are complemented by an air handling unit from the parent company ATREA:
- 6× MasterTherm BoxAir 90 IP
- 6× MasterTherm pGDx controllers
- MasterTherm Extension Box (expansion module)
- ATREA DUPLEX 15000 Roto-N air handling unit with heating coil
- 2000-litre buffer tank
- 500-litre domestic hot water (DHW) cylinder
- 2× three-way valves
- RD2 magnetic strainer filter on the return header
Intelligent control and robust performance
The system is designed to maintain a buffer tank temperature of 55 °C, but during stress testing the heat pumps successfully reached temperatures up to 70 °C. The fifth unit is in standby mode for DHW support, while the sixth unit continuously maintains 60 °C in the hot water cylinder. A 30 kW electric backup heater is also included for added reliability in case of system failure.
Indoor comfort ensured by ATREA ventilation
The building is heated via a combination of fan coil units, while air quality is maintained by an efficient ATREA air handling unit with heat recovery. The result is optimal heat distribution, a steady supply of fresh air, and maximum use of renewable energy sources.
